Posts & Pages

This guide explains the differences between posts and pages on your ChurchWeb site.

Posts

Posts are entries listed in reverse chronological order on your site. They are excellent for blogging & providing updates, but are also the best way to add many other forms of content to your website.

Think of them as articles or updates that you share to offer up new content or information to your congregation. Examples may include a regular reflection, prayer circulation, the latest edition of the parish magazine, or the weekly notices.

Posts can (and should) have categories applied to them. Categories can divide posts into different topics to keep them together and organised. There could be one topic for the weekly church notices, another for prayer updates, and another for a ministers bible study. The application of categories to each post, makes your website very versatile, and can be used to display dynamic content throughout your website in many different ways.

Generally posts shouldn’t be deleted when no longer current, but used to build a resource library of previous updates. Similarly they shouldn’t usually be updated with new content. For example the weekly notices should have a new post created each time.

It is possible to automatically copy the content of a post into a new post, which can save a lot of time when only minor details need changing in a new post. Click here for more details.

Pages

Pages are static and are not affected by the date of creation. Think of them as more permanent fixtures of your site — an About page, a Contact page, and a Home page are great examples of this.

Pages can automatically include some posts. An example of this would be if you wished the Home Page of your church website to also always display the last update from the minister. The Home Page would retain all of the fixed content, but would automatically also include the latest post written by the minister.

Rule of Thumb

Use Posts for things like updates, new articles, regular reflections, prayer circulations, the latest edition of the parish magazine, or the weekly notices.

Use Pages for fixed content that doesn’t change very often, like the Home Page, About Us page, etc.
